"Come Home to
Kanesville"
2010
ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
-
Kanesville is
presentational theatre. Cast members establish strong eye
contact with audience members.
-
We perform TO
the audience, not IN FRONT OF the audience.
-
FACE -- bright
eyes, bright faces
-
SINGING --
Ideally, all roles are singing roles.
-
However, there
is room in the cast for a few exceptional non-singing
dancers.
-
DANCING -- We
need a strong dance corps, but not everyone on stage needs
to be a dancer.
ACTORS
- SINGERS FOR LEADING ROLES
We will
be building "families" on stage, and can use "stage"
personalities of all ages
Actors-Singers for Leading Roles:
-
Thomas Kane, any age adult male. Narrates the
production.
-
Jonathan Briggs, adult male, old enough to have a son
age 19 to 24.
-
Widow Mary Lewis, adult female, Jonathan's love
interest, has two young children.
-
Nathan Briggs, a 19 to 24 years old, not a member of the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
-
Hannah Martin, a 15 to 19 years old, Nathan's love
interest.
-
Richard Martin, Hannah's older brother, marches with the
Mormon Battalion.
-
Marian Hoyt, 16 to 20 year old, Richard's love interest,
Hannah's best friend.
-
William Martin, Hannah's father.
-
Rachael Martin, Hannah's mother.
DANCE ENSEMBLE
There is a
dance ensemble of 8 men and 8 women. Singing skills are a
plus, but not necessary.
VOCAL ENSEMBLE
The vocal ensemble is ideally cast with 14 additional women and
12 additional men of all ages. Part singing throughout. Dance
skills are a plus, but not necessary.
We plan to cast "about" 50 persons to play "about" 32 roles.
This means that most performers will have some "time off" during
the run of the show, so they can participate in family weekend
excursions, weddings, emergencies, etc. This is a "rotation"
type of double casting.

COSTS TO BE IN THE
SHOW
The Company
assumes your basic costume cost, and will keep your costume
from year-to-year. You pay nothing for your basic costume.
You assume
responsibility for these costs, and you keep these costume
parts.

-
1
- 1/2" leather belt &
approved buckle - men
-
undergarments

black or brown character footwear - women
-
Women, we
provide costumed undergarments such as pantaloons.
"Married women"
will have their hair "up." "Single women/girls" will have
their hair "down." This means that some "girls" will have to
purchase designated hair pieces [but you also keep whatever
you have to purchase]
Women may wear
appropriate low-heeled dance shoes.
Boots... "Men"
will be expected to provide appropriate boots. Typical
western cowboy boots will not be appropriate. Look at the
boots in the Battalion display at the Kanesville Tabernacle,
and you'll get a good idea what you'll need.
"Boys" will wear
a non-descript shoe.
Some of our
Men's trousers will be high-waist with suspenders. Some may
use 1-1/2" belts with buckles.
We are casting
custom-designed buckles for our cast and crew. These buckles
may be used on stage, and they will be used to replace the
"US" buckle for the Mormon Battalion.
Brass buckles
will be available for cast and crew purchase at cost. Excess
will be sold over the website as an ongoing fund raiser.
All persons
wishing to participate in any technical aspect of the show,

WHAT IF MY
FAMILY HAS A VACATION
SCHEDULED DURING THE RUN OF THE SHOW?
Maybe
it'll work out. Here's why -- we're using a type of
double-casting, so that all performers do not go on stage
every night. Your stage-double and you share a role, and
schedule when you'll be there, and when you won't. This way,
each of you can have some nights off.
Should
weddings, family emergencies -- whatever -- come along, you
and your stage double coordinate your nights off with the
Stage Manager.
